In post-menopausal women, higher levels of estrogen or testosterone have long been known to increase the incidence of Breast Cancer. According to newly published research in the journal British Cancer Research, for each hormone that is elevated the risk of Breast Cancer increases 16%.
According to a nine year study conducted through Harvard Medical School, the highest levels of circulating hormones including growth hormone and the sex hormones estrogen and testosterone, the risk o Breast Cancer increased 50 to 200%. Simply stated, the more number of hormones elevated, the greater th risk of Breast Cancer. Researchers evaluated eight different hormones and determined each one that was elevated increased the risk of Breast Cancer and the more elevations, the greater the increased risk of Breast Cancer.
For years women were prescribed HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy) for alleviating symptoms of menopause including hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness and depression. In 2002, the NIH (Nationa Institute of Health)landmark study proved the risk of taking hormones (increased risk of Breast Cancer, Stroke, Blood Clots, Heart Attack and more) was not worth the benefit of symptomatic relief.
This study reaffirms that taking hormones after menopause is very dangerous and simply not worth the risk. Elevated hormones after menopause significantly increase the risk of Breast Cancer. This should apply to synthetic as well as bio-identical hormone replacement.
Improving the quality of life through and after menopause can be achieved through diet, lifestyle and supplements. These do not increase the risk of Breast Cancer. Taking any hormones after menopause dramatically increases the risk of Breast Cancer.
