Avandia May Increase Heart Failure By 60%

Avandia is a popular diabetic drug that has been under scrutiny for its dangerous side effects.

According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers conducted a study of more than 159,000 people over the age of 64 who were diabetic. Of those patients taking Avandia for their diabetes, 60% experienced a higher heart failure risk, 40% higher risk of heart attack, and 30% higher chance of dying.

These results are consistent with a previous study published in the New England Journal of Medicine that resulted in the FDA adding a black box warning about the dangers of this drug. Despite that study, the FDA called the evidence “inconclusive” and rather than ban the drug, simply strengthen the warning label.

This additional evidence further concludes that taking Avandia may be too dangerous for anyone.
