Fish Oil Helps Diabetics

Many diabetics are insulin resistant. Insulin occurs when the body produces adequate insulin but the cells of the body resist or ignore the insulin. This is commonly seen in overweight diabetics.

Drugs that improve insulin sensitivity are typically used. Ultimately these people often go on to requiring insulin injections.

A recent study in Iceland clearly demonstrated that fish oil intake is a significant predictor of fasting insulin and insulin resistance after only eight weeks. The study participants were divided into 3 groups. One group consumed 150 grams of cod three times a week, the second consumed 150 grams of salmon three times a week, and the third group took a daily fish oil supplement.

It was noted that the consumption of fish oil significantly improved insulin resistance in as little as eight weeks.
