Research recently presented at the American Heart Association’s annual meeting demonstrates a solid connection between oral hygiene and cardiac health.

The study followed 100,000 people with no history of heart disease or stroke for 7 years. They observed that individuals who had their teeth cleaned professionally at the dentists at least once every 6 months for 2 years, had a 24% lower risk for heart attack and 13% lower risk for stroke. It is well recognized that heart disease and stroke as well as diabetes, Alzheimer’s, cancer, Macular Degeneration, premature aging and more are all caused by chronic inflammation. With professional teeth cleaning, chronic inflammation is decreased.

Many researchers and doctors including cardiologists recognize the value of controlling inflammation in preventing disease. Cholesterol lowering drugs as well as aspirin do virtually nothing towards reducing inflammation. Good oral hygiene including professional teeth cleaning twice a year dramatically reduces risk for heart attack and stroke and has no side effects. It appears that the prescription for good health may not be the doctor but rather the dentist.

Tooth decay is caused by bacteria forming a “gang” called a biosphere which causes inflammation. When first waking in the morning, the film felt across the teeth is a biosphere. Biospheres form in the mouth as a direct result of time(morning mouth), excess sugar in the diet especially soda and desserts, dry mouth as a common side effect of prescription medications or failure to drink enough water and poor oral hygiene.

Research demonstrates that brushing with a therapeutic concentration of Xylitol destroys biospheres and prevents decay and inflammation. Xlear Inc is the leading expert in xylitol. Their Spry toothpaste as well as mouth rinse, gum and mints contain enough Xylitol to decrease biospheres as well as inflammation.
