The heart health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA, may be related to their ability to reduce oxidative stress. Oxygen-breathing organisms naturally produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) which play an important role in a host of cell signaling, including premature aging and cellular death. Antioxidants naturally protect the body from the damages of ROS, however, oftentimes the defenses become overwhelmed. ROS and oxidative stress has been linked to an increase in various diseases including cancer, Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular disease.

A recent study was conducted on overweight individuals with abnormal blood cholesterol as well as diabetics with high blood pressure. The participants were randomly assigned to receive daily doses of four grams of EPA and DHA over six weeks. At the end of the six week study, researchers noted that the EPA and DHA supplements, which are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, resulted in decreased levels of the inflammatory markers associated with oxidative stress. In summary, this in one further study explaining the benefits of omega-3 fatty acids including EPA and DHA and their benefits to overall good health. Worthy of note in this study was that it only took six weeks, four grams a day, to achieve the benefits.

Vita Logic Fish Oil is a rich source of Omega-3 fatty acids including DHA and EPA. It is derived from Nordic cold water fish which produce the purest of fish oil supplements. Vita Logic Fish Oil does not contain mercury or other contaminates and is preferred over simply adding fish to the diet. Also, Vita Logic Fish Oil is a soft gel capsule which reduces or eliminates any “fish oil burp.”
