Omega-3 Improves Babies’ Brain Development
Expectant mothers who take enough Omega-3 fatty acids late in their pregnancy have smarter babies.
The Omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon, sardines, and tuna are otherwise known as brain food. It has been proven in a recent study published in the medical Journal of Pediatrics that when mothers had the highest intake of the Omega-3 fatty acids in their pregnancy, their infants had better visual acuity and preformed better in standard visual acuity and memory tests.
It was also observed that these infants had better cognitive and motor development by the time they were a year old.
Since the guidelines are for pregnant women to avoid fish because of the danger of mercury exposure, it simply makes sense that they should take a fish oil supplement from cold waters.
