The higher your blood pressure the greater your risk of kidney disease. Analysis of data from the National Kidney Foundation’s Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP) found significant evidence that supports the fact that people who have mild blood pressure elevation of 130 mmHg are already developing kidney disease. The researchers looked at over 120,000 people and found that this mild elevation of blood pressure was associated with evidence of more advanced stages of chronic kidney disease.
Urine should never contain any bacteria, sugar or protein. Protein in the urine is called microalbuminuria and always indicates disease. A simple urine test can detect microalbuminuria, even in the absence of symptoms. According to this study, anyone with a blood pressure greater than 130 should be routinely evaluated for kidney disease via this urine test.
